What does Mohiya do?

Since the start of 2020, Mohiya has been raising funds to feed the hungry in Bali and other parts of Indonesia.

The sickly, the elderly and the orphaned cannot fend for themselves.

The Founder of Mohiya, Jo, was in Bali when the COVID pandemic began in early 2020. A Singaporean and also a meditation teacher, she witnessed many people going hungry. As Bali's economy is highly reliant on the tourism industry, many people were suddenly out of work and could not put food on the table.

Parents with newborns, young children, sick people and elderly folks who could barely walk were showing up at her home asking for food.

Many had eaten next to nothing for days. The more time passed, the more Jo became aware of just how many people were struggling.

To help these families, she gave them rice, eggs, noodles, sugar, cooking oil, medicines, milk powder and diapers, paid for out of her own pocket, even though she didn't have enough money for herself.

Before long, there were too many requests to manage on her own, so Jo turned to friends and family on Facebook for support.

With God's blessings, and thanks to the generosity of her friends and family, she managed to continue to help the less fortunate in Bali.

More than 10,000 food packages were given out during COVID.

More than SDG50,000 was raised,
it was truly amazing.

To date, we have more than 200 people needing help registered, and still growing.

To continue doing our best, our Yayasan (charitable organisation) is official as at 10 February 2024. Registration number: AHU-0003944.AH.01.12 Tahun 2024

How can your donation help?

We currently have slightly over 200 (of which three are groups of 50-70 children) people registered in our database. We do not have enough to help them all every month, therefore taking turns in our food runs.

Amounts indicated are in SGD. Percentage calculated based on 400 people.

A food pack consists of:

If we are to give every family registered a pack of food every month, it will cost $10,000.

Not all people needing our help are sick, however there are around 25% in our database who need cash to pay for their medicines that are not covered by the government. There are also other common needs like adult diapers which they can hardly afford. Each person might need anything from $20 to $300 a month.

If we are to supplement the 25% in our database with an average of $50 each per person, we will need $5000 a month.

About 30% of children from poor families need help with paying school fees. If they are eligible for government subsidised schooling, they only need to pay about $50-$100 a year. However if they are not, it can cost anywhere from $35 to $55 a month just for school fees alone.

They will also need money for transportation, uniforms, books etc. Which is why many children don't go to school.

If we are to supplement the 30% in our database with an average of $50 each per person, we will need $6000 a month.

There's only so many needs we can fulfill at a given time. At Mohiya we prioritise survival needs before anything else.
